NYAIL and several other organizations – NYSILC, Statewide Senior Action, United Spinal, and Taxis For All – sent a letter to Governor Cuomo and Senate and Assembly leadership regarding the need for the State to ensure accessibility is included as a condition to allowing ridesharing companies such as Uber to operate statewide. The authorization of ridesharing companies is likely to be taken up by the Governor and Legislature as part of the 2017-18 budget negotiations, if not sooner. But the State should not and cannot allow a new business to operate throughout New York that refuses to serve a segment of the population and in fact discriminates against tens of thousands of New Yorkers.
